Ely Boathouse

While working with Jeremy Bailey Architects ltd. Peter & Jerry had the opportunity to work on this beautiful new boathouse for the combined Cambridge University boat clubs. It was a fascinating project with innovative use of CLT and exceptional attention to detail. The project was completed in 2017 much to the satisfaction of the clients.

The boat house has a ground floor designed to withstand flooding due to its riverbank location. Upstairs a folded gabled roof sits astride changing rooms, an honours hall and club space complete with open views out and up to Ely cathedral.

The project is built on green belt land and it is a great accolade for its design and its corresponding habitat creation works that it got planning permission in the first place. It shows that excellent design can truly enhance the natural beauty of surroundings.

A research piece was written by one of our staff exploring the innovative use of CLT in this building and whether it lived up to expectations. Please contact us to find out more.
